Trebević rises directly above Sarajevo's old town — you can see the ridge from Baščaršija on a clear day, and most visitors never go up. This tour puts you on it for a full day: a well-marked trail that passes through 1984 Olympic history, the silence of the summit, and a home-cooked lunch in the first neighbourhood on the descent back into the city. The hike follows well-marked trails up through Trebević's beech and pine forest. Your local guide walks with you the entire day — not as a commentary track, but as the kind of person who actually grew up here and has something to say. The stories start on the trail and don't stop until the food arrives. Halfway up, you reach the 1984 Winter Olympics bobsleigh and luge track — a long concrete shell now threaded with graffiti and wild vegetation. It's one of the most photographed spots in Bosnia and one of the least understood. Your guide carries three chapters of its story: the Games, the siege, and what it means to Sarajevans today. This stop changes the rest of the hike. The trail continues to Trebević's high point, where Sarajevo spreads out below in full — minarets, red rooftops, the surrounding hills. After that, the path leads down into the first traditional mahala at the city's edge, where a local woman opens her door and serves a meal she's been making since morning. No restaurant logic. Just Bosnian home food, eaten the right way.
